Winter is Here and Christmas is Near
Well, with the first snow this weekend it can only mean that winter is here. It tends to put everyone in the Christmas spirit. Christmas has also come to Washington. The stores in the Historic Downtown have their Christmas finery on and the shops are filled with goodies for that special someone. Whether is a great piece of art or some great Missouri wine or a unique gift, we have it all.
Here's my recommendation for the perfect day in Washington. Begin with a great breakfast at Cowan's Cafe. The food here is truly great homestyle cooking. Then it's off to shop at Gary Lucy Gallery, the Fudge Shop, Zuzu's, Urban Accent, or the Art Center. Lunch could be at La Dolce Vita, Choco L'Art or Manwell's Coffee Alley. Then spend the afternoon at one of the great wineries. This is their quiet time so you can relax with a great bottle of wine by the fire. Then it's off to American Bounty for dinner. Finally, enjoy one of the great B&Bs or the comfortable motels.
Washington can't be beat for the Christmas Season. The theme for the Washington Holiday Season is "All I Want For Christmas....... For us the answer to that question is YOU! We look forward to seeing you. Stop by the Visitor Center, say hi and enjoy a hot cup of coffee.

Thanksgiving
As we approach Thanksgiving, I am thankful to be a resident of one of the finest communities in Missouri. Each of us need to stop at this time of year and count our many blessings. I know that in these deeply troubling times, each of us have concerns about what tomorrow might bring, but we do live in the greatest nation on earth and that is truly something to be thankful for.
As we approach the holidays, it is my hope that each of you will enjoy the festivities with family and friends. May you have a wonderful time around the dinner table and begin to prepare for the Christrmas season.
Don't forget that Washington will kick off the holiday season with its Parade of Lights on Friday, November 28 at 6:00pm. With over 50 lighted floats it will be a wonderful time and of course, Santa will be there and will greet children of all ages at the Farmers' Market at Main and Cedar.
Speaking of Santa, he will arrive officially in Washington by Amtrak on Friday, December 5 at about 5:10pm. The jolly old elf will then go to the Farmers' Market where he will listen to the lists of good little boys and girls.
Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday and then plan to join us in Washington, MO to kick off the Christmas holiday.
See you in Washington!

Coming Attractions
Well, as the temperature get cooler and the trees begin to look bare, it can only mean that the holidays are just around the corner. Even with the cooler weather, our Farmers' Market still has some great items from delicious baked goods to craft items to even a few items of produce (onions, turnips, squash). The Market is open every Saturday from 8:00am-2:00pm. They will be taking orders for those holiday goodies, so stop by and visit with us.
The downtown store will be having their Holiday Open House the weekend of November 21-23. This a real chance to get a leg up on your Christmas Shopping. Whether it's great art, clothing, or home decor, the Downtown Merchants can fill all of your orders.
As the weather get colder, the wineries are still open, but with smaller crowds. Roaring fireplaces, godd friends and great Missouri wines-how could you spend a better time? I would recommend that you try the port at a number of the wineries. Combine that with the cold weather, some cheese, chocolate and that special someone and you couldn't ask for anything better.
After a day at the winery or a crisp ride on the Katy Trail, how about a cozy weekend at one of the quaint bed and breakfasts or modern motels in Washington? I can't think of a better way to spend a late fall or early winter weekend. What makes it even better is that you can ride the Amtrak to Washington. A train ride, wine, great food, and cozy lodging-I think that's just what everyone needs! Come see us!

Beautiful October Day
I'm setting in my office today, October 31, and can't believe the weather. What a perfect weekend it would be to come to Washington and enjoy a weekend of shopping in the historic downtown, checking into a quaint B&B or motel and then head to the wineries to enjoy the beautiful scenery and a fine bottle of Missouri wine. Also this weekend there are some outstanding church dinners. I think the Methodist Church ladies have a turkey dinner and the Lutheran men have a pork sausage and saurkraut dinner. Yummy!!!!
Who knows how many more of these weekends will be around. It will be a great weekend to start getting those unique Christmas gift. Come see us, you'll like us!!!!!

Holidays Come to Washington
Hard to believe that October has come and gone, but with the cooler days come thoughts of the holidays. Downtown Washington has already started to prepare for the coming of Santa. We would sure like you all to come and enjoy the holidays with us.
Our Farmers' Market is still in full swing on Saturdays from 8am-2pm. It's amazing that there are still veggies available. Some of the vendors have brussel sprouts, potatoes, peppers, and many other good deals. In addition, there is always fresh baked bread and cookies. We even have those wonderful carrot and gooey butter cakes! If it's Christmas gifts you're looking for, the Market is the place to find those hand-crafted items. Check us out-you won't be disappointed!
As far as the holidays go, the downtown merchants will have their holiday open house the third weekend in November. All the stores will have great gifts for that special someone. Between the art galleries, the candy shops, and the home decor shops we have something for everyone.
On November 28, be sure to come to Washington for the Parade of Holiday lights. It will begin at 6:00pm and the lighted floats will take a journey through town. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be in the last float and will then stop and see the kids at the Farmers' Market for hot cocoa and donut holes. What a way to begin the Christmas season!
Don't forget about the wineries and our great motels and bed and breakfasts. Winter comes to wine country and what better way to spend a weekend then to enjoy a bottle of wine in front of a roaring fire and then return to coziness of a great motel room or the luxury of a historic bed and breakfast.
